For Christmas 2001 I gave my family a LAN and ADSL line. I gave
myself a Linux computer--built on a $40 P-100 from Purdue salvage.

I stuffed it with as much RAM as it would hold (128MB), and then
installed Red Hat 7.2. Since then I've built and installed the
2.4.18 kernel.

I named it Linus, because my family picked cartoon character names
for their computers, and Linus Van Pelt has always been one of my
favorites. (The fact that I run Linux had a bit of influence, too!)

-- Update --

In December 2003 the PI was starting to get bogged down running
SpamAssassin with the significant increase in volume of spam. I
picked up a used Pentium III (600MHz) and maxed out the RAM at 1GB.
After installing Slackware 9.1, this computer became Linus, and
the PI will be set up as a router when I have time.

-- additional update --

In October 2005 after 453 days of uptime, I decided slack 9.1 was
getting a bit dated and upgraded to 10.2
